IOQM OMR Sheet: Practise Two-Digit Answers Without Losing Marks
IOQM is conducted offline and answers are recorded on an OMR sheet. Learn the two-column answer format, leading-zero habit, pen and bubbling discipline, verification routine and safe practice method.
Treat every numerical answer as two digits. For example, record 7 as 07. Mark the tens and units columns deliberately with the permitted ballpoint pen, fully darken the intended bubbles and verify question number, tens digit and units digit before moving on.

Marking discipline
Use the OMR rules as part of problem solving
- Use only the pen type and colour permitted in the current official instructions; recent IOQM instructions specify a blue or black ballpoint pen.
- Do not use pencil or gel pen when the official instructions prohibit them.
- Darken the selected bubble fully and neatly; do not use ticks, crosses or partial marks.
- Match the OMR row to the question number before marking.
- Record both digits. Do not omit the tens bubble for a one-digit answer.
- Do not rely on a number written in a working area if the machine-readable bubbles differ.
- Avoid erasing, scratching or overwriting; seek an invigilator’s instruction if a genuine exam-day issue occurs.
The current IOQM FAQ confirms an offline OMR examination and no negative marking. Always read the final 2026 question-paper and hall-ticket instructions because operational details can change.
A five-second check
Use the same verification order every time
- Row: say the question number silently.
- Value: convert the answer to a two-digit form.
- Tens: locate and mark the first digit.
- Units: locate and mark the second digit.
- Read back: compare row, tens and units once.
A fixed routine reduces transcription errors under time pressure. Practise it during timed sets so it is automatic before exam day.

Use the historical HBCSE sample only to understand bubbling
HBCSE hosts a historical sample OMR-marking PDF from the earlier PRMO cycle. It is useful for understanding machine-readable bubbling, but it is not the IOQM 2026 sheet and must not override current instructions.
When to transfer
Choose a transfer method and practise it before the exam
Immediate marking
Record after each confirmed answer. This reduces end-of-paper backlog but requires careful row discipline.
Short batches
Transfer a small group at fixed checkpoints. This can protect solving flow while limiting backlog.
End-only transfer
Risky for many students because one time overrun can leave correct work unrecorded.
There is no universal best method. Test it in full simulations and keep a final verification buffer.
Prevent avoidable losses
Six mistakes to remove during mocks
- Marking the answer for Question 12 in Row 13.
- Recording 7 as 70 instead of 07.
- Marking only the units digit for a one-digit answer.
- Changing a bubble through scratching or messy overwriting.
- Leaving all transfer to the last minute.
- Checking the mathematics but not the OMR transcription.
Add “OMR/transcription” as a separate category in the error log. A correct solution with a wrong record is a preventable exam error.

Follow the actual paper and invigilator instructions
- Read the printed instructions before marking identification or answers.
- Use the exact permitted pen and enter candidate details carefully.
- Ask the invigilator about a damaged or incorrect sheet before trying to fix it yourself.
- Do not make stray marks in machine-readable areas.
- Verify the required signatures and fields.
- Follow the rule about any candidate copy or retained section printed on the current sheet.
