IOQM Eligibility 2026–27: Class, Age, Citizenship and DOB Rules
Check the complete IOQM 2026 eligibility conditions in one place—including class, date of birth, passport eligibility, residence, Class XII, university and OCI provisions.
For IOQM 2026, a student must be studying in Class 8, 9, 10, 11 or 12 and must have been born from 1 August 2007 through 31 July 2014. These are only the first conditions: passport eligibility, residence or Indian-school-system status, Class XII timing and university-start rules must also be satisfied.

Citizenship and location
Passport, OCI and residence conditions
Indian-passport eligibility
The official criteria state that the student must be eligible to hold an Indian passport. Students and parents should use the official document—not assumptions about nationality—as the deciding reference.
OCI provision
OCI card holders are provisionally eligible through earlier stages, subject to the stated conditions and any future legal or government revision. The 2026 document says OCI students are not eligible to represent India at IMO, EGMO or APMO.
Residence or Indian school system
The student must have been residing and studying in India since 30 October 2024 or earlier, or have been studying in an Indian school system since that date.
Students studying abroad in an Indian school system
An otherwise eligible student studying abroad in an Indian school system must come to India to write IOQM and later Indian stages if qualified. The student is treated as enrolled from Delhi-NCR for the relevant selection criteria and bears the travel cost. Read the official PDF for the full wording.

Education status
Class XII and university restrictions
Class XII board timing
The student must not have qualified—or be scheduled to appear for—the Class XII board examination earlier than 30 October 2026. The official criteria expressly prohibit forfeiting a Class XII result to try to meet eligibility.
University start
The student must not have commenced, or be planning to commence, study at a university or equivalent institution by 1 June 2027.
INMO 2026 awardees
The official document gives eligible INMO 2026 awardees a direct route to INMO 2027 without qualifying again through IOQM 2026 and RMO 2026, provided the stated age, university and later-stage eligibility conditions are satisfied. This is a special pathway; the full official clause should be read before acting on it.
Boards and schooling
Home-schooling, open schooling and recognised boards
The official IOQM portal says students following home-schooling or open-schooling may appear if they satisfy every eligibility condition and submit appropriate supporting documents. It also lists students from CBSE, ICSE, State Boards, IB, IGCSE, NIOS and other recognised systems as eligible subject to the complete criteria.

Documents used to support eligibility
During individual enrollment, the official instructions required a recent photograph, proof of current school and proof of date of birth. Registration for the 2026 cycle is now closed, but registered students should keep these files and their original records available in case verification is requested.
Photograph
A recent JPG or PNG photograph, following the official size and recency requirements.
Current-school proof
School ID, school-stamped fee receipt, previous report card or another permitted document for home-schooling cases.
Date-of-birth proof
Aadhaar, birth certificate, passport or another document listed in the current official upload instructions.
Names and DOB should be consistent across the application and supporting documents. If the registration record contains an error, use the official portal or helpdesk rather than creating a second registration.
Before relying on eligibility
Seven-point self-check for families
- The student is in Class 8, 9, 10, 11 or 12.
- The DOB is from 1 August 2007 through 31 July 2014.
- The Indian-passport or provisional OCI condition is understood.
- The residence or Indian-school-system condition has been met since 30 October 2024.
- The Class XII board examination is not qualified or scheduled before 30 October 2026.
- University or equivalent study is not planned to begin by 1 June 2027.
- Supporting records are accurate and available.
Eligibility remains the student’s responsibility. The official document states that a student found ineligible at a later stage may be disqualified.
Current cycle
Registration status does not change eligibility rules
New IOQM 2026 enrollment closed after 27 July 2026. Eligibility explains who could enroll; it does not reopen the registration window. Students already enrolled should keep their confirmation and monitor the official portal for payment, correction, hall-ticket and examination notices.

Which classes are eligible for IOQM 2026?
Students studying in Class 8, 9, 10, 11 or 12 may be eligible, provided they satisfy every other official condition.
What is the DOB range for IOQM 2026?
The official range is 1 August 2007 through 31 July 2014, inclusive.
Can a student born on 1 August 2014 write IOQM 2026?
No. The official criteria specifically say that a student born on or after 1 August 2014 is not eligible.
Can Class XII students appear for IOQM?
Yes, if all conditions are met, including the rule that the Class XII board examination must not have been qualified or scheduled earlier than 30 October 2026.
Are OCI students eligible for IOQM 2026?

Can home-schooled or NIOS students appear?
The official portal says home-schooled and open-schooling students may appear if they meet all eligibility conditions and submit suitable supporting documents.
Can an eligible student studying abroad write IOQM?
The official criteria permit a qualifying student in an Indian school system, but the student must come to India for IOQM and subsequent Indian stages and is treated under Delhi-NCR selection criteria.
Who makes the final eligibility decision?
