Not every detail has the same source status. This distinction prevents students from treating an older paper convention as a new official notice.
Offline OMR paper with no negative marking
The official IOQM 2026 portal states that the examination will be conducted offline using an OMR answer sheet and that there is no negative marking. The examination date is Sunday, 6 September 2026.
3 hours, 30 integer-answer questions
HBCSE’s current Stage 1 overview describes IOQM as a three-hour examination with 30 questions, available in English and Hindi. The latest detailed official brochure uses 100 marks divided into 2-, 3- and 5-mark questions.

The latest detailed official format groups the paper into ten 2-mark, ten 3-mark and ten 5-mark questions. This totals 30 questions and 100 marks.

Answer format
How integer answers and the OMR sheet work
The answer is a number, not an option
IOQM questions use integer answers, historically in the range 00–99. You solve the problem and bubble the digits on the OMR sheet instead of choosing A, B, C or D.
The bubbles are the final answer
Machine scanning reads the darkened bubbles. Follow the paper’s instructions for one-digit and two-digit answers. Do not rely only on a handwritten number beside the bubbles.
OMR discipline: Solve first, verify the integer, then bubble carefully. A correct solution with incorrectly filled bubbles can still lose the marks.
Attempt strategy
A practical three-round plan for three hours
There is no compulsory order. The best sequence is determined by certainty and time—not merely by the question number.
Secure direct problems
Scan the full paper and solve questions where the central idea is immediately visible. Record tentative answers clearly.
Return to workable problems
Use the largest block of time for questions that need construction, cases, algebraic manipulation or a useful lemma.
Verify and bubble
Check the integer range, arithmetic and OMR rows. Do not let one difficult 5-mark problem consume the verification window.
Qualification
How IOQM 2026 leads to RMO 2026
A student must score at least 10% of the total IOQM marks to be eligible for RMO consideration, but 10% alone does not guarantee qualification.
- Category A: Classes 8–11; top 200 students in each region, including ties at the 200th position.
- Category B: Class 12; top 40 students in each region, including ties at the 40th position.
- Girls’ quota: Five additional Category A girls per region, including ties at the fifth position.
